課程概述 |
This two-semester course aims to acquaint students with the process of composing academic research papers by virtue of offering hands-on experiences. At the conclusion of this academic year, students are each required to produce a complete research paper on a topic of their own interest. They are recommended to, but not limited to, select their topics in the following academic areas: second language acquisition, language teaching methodologies, language learning strategies, technology and language learning, psychology of human learning, cross-cultural communication, measurement and evaluation, personality and individual differences, and so forth. |
課程目標 |
Four objectives are established for this course:
1) to help students obtain a holistic understanding of the academic research writing process;
2) to foster students’ ability to locate, gather, and evaluate references;
3) to cultivate students’ skills in summarizing, quoting, and paraphrasing the source texts to help them eschew plagiarism, and
4) to provide an opportunity for students to translate the knowledge gained in class into practice by generating research papers on topics of their choice. |

* “Plagiarism is the act of taking another person's writing, conversation, song, or even idea and passing it off as your own. This includes information from web pages, books, songs, television shows, email messages, interviews, articles, artworks or any other medium. Whenever you paraphrase, summarize, or take words, phrases, or sentences from another person's work, it is necessary to indicate the source of the information within your paper using an internal citation. It is not enough to just list the source in a bibliography at the end of your paper. Failing to properly quote, cite or acknowledge someone else's words or ideas with an internal citation is plagiarism”
[The Plagiarism Tutorial (www.lib.usm.edu/legacy/plag/plagiarismtutorial.php)].
** Numerous websites have provided guidelines for citing and quoting sources, such as Purdue Online Writing Lab (owl.english.purdue.edu/), The Writer’s Handbook (writing.wisc.edu/Handbook/QPA_plagiarism.html).
